According to my iPhone my current average walking speed is over 5 km/hr on the flat which has remain constant for the past two decades if not longer.

Walking Speed - Camino de Santiago Forum 23 Mar 2012 · My total average speed (5) is for SJPdP-SdC-Finisterrre-Muxía-SdC plus Ferrol-SdC. Edit: I walked approximately the last 10 days with severe anemia and had shin splits in the left leg from Ponerrada and onward so my average speed was taken down a bit compare to hiking/walking when I'm not ill.

I am however, a really good walker. My average walking pace when I'm alone is 4 miles per hour (6.4 km/hr) - and that includes hills. So I was thinking that 3 miles per hour (4.8 km/hr) should be a reasonable pace on the Camino.

I stopped for photos when and where I wanted. I stopped for breaks when, where, and for however long I chose. I stopped for the day when I felt like it and for the most part began walking in the morning when I was ready to walk.

But then I take loads of pictures, and talk to all the animals I see [and sometimes the butterflies]. We just finished the Hadrian's Wall hiking path in England, averaged about 2mph and often felt 'beaten up' just averaging 12 miles per day and some of those days were a struggle to maintain that 2mph speed due to steep inclines, mud, tall grass in the fields, heavy winds, rocky ground, etc.

How long it takes depends on many factors, most notably, fitness, pack weight, natural stride (helped by long legs), goals (are they: get it done, or smell the roses), heat/cold/rain/mud, etc.
